The 5th and 6th grade class at Kahal Chaverim will focus on ethics, values, and morals. Lessons on Jewish heroes, Jewish holidays, Humanistic Judaism, Mitzvah projects, and traditions are taught with ethics, morals and values in mind. Art projects, film, literature, and group activities will be used within the weekly lessons to aid in the students’ understanding of the topics. Students will keep individual weekly journals to document what is being taught each week and have a space to keep their notes and thoughts for the year.
In addition to the weekly curriculum, the class will work on a mitzvah project throughout the entire school year. The students will work together to choose a project they want to spend the year focusing on. The project will be a group effort and allow for the students to use their creativity. The class will end the school year with a much better understanding of what a mitzvah project is and help prepare the students for their Bnai Mitzvah ceremony in the following year or two.
